Parish Construction 2004

A new Study for the Rector in Portland

The parish worked together to install a new study in the lower level of Myers hall in Portland.

Steve is enjoying a quiet place to think about his sermons, and to visit with people. Give Steve a call to come and see him, to have a cup of tea, or just to visit.

Pictures coming SOON!

A Bell for Newboyne

Anglicans have been meeting to worship together in Newboyne since the 1840's. In the 1870's the people constructed a impressive stone church with a large steeple in the hopes that some day a bell would grace the structure to call the community to worship (you can click here to see some pictures of St. Peter's). Well a lot has changed in the last 160 years, but 2004 is the year when St. Peter's finally got its bell.

The bell has been donated to us by the parishioners of St. John's Church Carrying Place as they have decided to begin worshiping close by in Wellington or in Trenton, and sell their church building.

St. John's, Carrying Place

The bell is a Thomas Mears Bell, cast in England in 1831 and rings clear and true in Eb.

There is quite a bit of work to moving a bell....and this one weighs just under 600 lbs. Below you can see the way up to the bell to inspect it.

To get it out of the St. John's tower, we used a crane! This was quite a job, but St. John's now has no bell, and a newly sealed roof on the top of their steeple.

The good news is that the entry into the St. Peter's tower was easier. The openings left in the steeple by the original builders were large enough to move the bell through, just as if the original builders planned it that way.

We hope you come to church, to join us for worship - and just perhaps to listen to our new bell too! If you would like to see more pictures of the bell project, click here

A new entrance way for Lombardy

The people of Holy Trinity Lombardy voted this spring to make some changes to their worship space. A new entry way is being added to improve egress, and to provide an attractive area to hang coats and leave boots in the wintery weather we get from time to time. The new entrance will allow us to add several additional pews to the church, and will mean that the church is fully wheel chair accessible.

Work is almost complete, so be sure to come to Holy Trinity to see the new entrance.
