A Murder Mystery Evening
We had a great evening of entertainment, with fun and great food for everyone in Handley Hall in Smiths Falls, on the 16th of November. It turns out NOBODY was murdered! Proceeds were used to benefit both the Parish of the Rideau, and Local Food Banks.
PWRDF Walkathon
Once again this year we walked to raise money for the Primates World Relief and Development Fund (http://www.pwrdf.org/). This year we walked from Newbliss to Lombardy, together with walkers from the parish of Kitley, and then had a potluck lunch! It was great, so plan to join us next year.
Walk for Life
For the 7th year in a row, in June the parish got set to field a team to walk in the 12 hour Canadian Cancer Society Walk for Life. We raised money for a worthy cause, and had lots of fun too! Plan to join us next year!
Sunday School..... like you have never done it before!
The Anglican Parish of the Rideau recently had their Sunday Morning services in the Gym of the Lombardy Public School. Everyone was very welcome to join in on the fun. Our focus is on friendly family worship, and service to the community, so we thought that it would make sense from time to time to meet outside our buildings, to reflect all the different outreach projects we take part in.
Some of the different causes that we have supported in the last year include: the Alzheimer’s Society, the Cancer Society, World Vision, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Sleeping Children Around the World, Interval House Brockville, Foster Parents Plan, Various local Food Banks as well as many others. We believe that God calls us not only to come to him, but to reach out to others in his name.
Undie Sunday
Annually, we set aside a Sunday to support the Shepherds of Good Hope in Ottawa, and Interval House in Brockville.
NO you are not expected to wear only your underwear to church - BURR! We make a collection of underwear, socks, toiletries and good used clothing.
Bowling for Kids
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
To mark the beginning of Lent, we have the annual tri-church Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at Lombardy. Traditionally this was a day when people made pancakes to use up fats etc. in their kitchens before the fast of Lent.
These days we are marking the day, with a community pancake supper put on by the Anglican, Roman Catholic, and United Churches of Lombardy. We often serve pancakes to more than 700 people, and are able to donate to a local worthy cause.
Christianity 101 Course
We try to hold a Christianity 101 course, using the tapes put out by Trinity Anglican Church in Streetsville, Ont, twice a year in the spring and fall. Here is a picture of a previous course.
Thoughtful discussion and an interesting speaker are the order of the night each evening.
Parish Barbecue
Our annual parish barbecue was held again, this year at Kin Park in Portland, on the first Saturday after Labour Day. There was fun and food for the whole family!
Vacation Bible Camp
We have again concluded the annual tri church vacation Bible Camp in Lombardy. The Catholic, United and Anglican Church get together to host an exciting week of fun and learning.
The kids had a great time.
St Peter's Summer Supper
On July the 16th, we had our world famous St. Peter's Summer supper. We hope you came and feasted! It took place at the St. Peter's Hall, in Newboyne.
